what is piston mechanism of pollination?

Dear student

Piston mechanism of pollination:
This mechanism is found in the family Fabaceae. Here five petals are present and the pollens are shed early. The large petal called standard petal attracts insects, the two lateral petals act as seat for the insect and anterior two petals (keel) surround the essential organs of insect. In this mechanism, the keel tip moves under the pressure of the insect and pollens are released repeatedly from anthers through the pore present in keel tip. A further pressure results in the protrusion of stigma and it is brought in contact with the insect containing pollens. Thus, results in pollination.
