What is present participle

Dear student,

Here is the answer:
  • The verbs ending in "ing"  form present participle. The present participle of most verbs has the form
        base verb + ing.

For example the verb "eat" is the base form of the verb "to eat". We add "ing" to it to form the present participle "eating".
  •  Present participles always end with "ing".
  •  Present participles can function as adjectives. For example
The winning team gets a trip to London. Here the present participle "winning" describes the noun "team".
  • Present participle appear in continuous form of verb tenses . It can be used with present, past and future continuous tense. For example
Present continuous tense : She is laughing. Here "is laughing" indicates the process of laughing is happening now.
Past continuous tense:  She was singing loudly. Here "was singing" indicates the process of singing was in progress in the past.
Future continuous tense : She will be dancing on the stage. Here "will be dancing" indicates the process of dancing will happen in the future.
