WHAT IS PROJECT CROCODILE
Dear Student,
a. In an attempt to bring about preservation and conservation of Crocodiles, Project crocodile was launched in 1975, by the government in collaboration with FAO and UNDP.
b. The main objective of the project was to rehabilitate crocodile in their natural habitat.
c. It also aimed to bring about intensive breeding programme to increase their population.
d. Project crocodile sought to protect and conserve the crocodile in their natural set environment and to promote captive breeding which involved grow and release technique of young crocodiles.
e. The project was one of its kind that sought to bring about greater research and management of crocodiles through trained personnel.
f. The project sought to involve local community members , encourage commercial crocodile farming.
g. From 1975, 16 crocodile rehabilitation centers and 5 crocodile sanctuaries have been set up.
