what is prothrombin and thrombin

Prothrombin is a glycoprotein present in the blood plasma and takes part in the blood clotting mechanism. When there is any injury clotting factor X or prothrombinase transform the prothrombin into thrombin whose function is to transform fibrinogen into fibrin which in combination with platelets forms a clot.
