What is radioactive tracer? Why tritium is widely used as a radioactive tracer??

Dear student
Please find the solution to the asked query:

A chemical compound, in which one or more atoms are replaced by a radioisotope, so that when it decays, it can be used to detect the mechanism of a chemical reaction, by tracing the path which the isotope follows in going from reactants to products.
Tritium is radioactive in nature and thus  used as a tracer because it is relatively easy to detect due to its radioactivity.
When it decays, it helps in detection of the path followed by it and thus helps in knowing about the reaction mechanism.

Hope this information will clear your doubts regarding the topic. If you have any other doubts please ask here on the forum and our experts will try to solve them as soon as possible.

A radioactive tracer, or radioactive label, is a chemical compound in which one or more atoms have been replaced by a radioisotope so by virtue of its radioactive decay it can be used to explore the mechanism of chemical reactions by tracing the path that the radioisotope follows from reactants to products.
