what is reported speech?please answer this:  Gopal's wife asked him '''Why is your face half-shaven?''' (change into  Reported speech)

Dear Student,
Given below is the answer to your question.

Dear Student,
Given below is the answer to your question.

Reported Speech is also known as Indirect Speech, and it is second hand account of what has already been heard. When what has been spoken between two people is repeated to a third person, there is use of indirect speech.

Example: Gopal's wife asked him, "Why is your face half-shaven?" is a statement in direct speech.
When the sentence is rewritten in indirect speech, it becomes Gopal's wife asked him why his face was half-shaven.

When a sentence is changed from direct to indirect speech, the quotation marks are removed. In case there are question marks or exclamation marks, this is also removed and substituted with a full stop.
