What is sodium absorption ratio and ionic uptake ?

It is not Sodium Absorption Ratio but it is Sodium Adsorption Ratio(SAR):-
It is used as an indicator to know the salinity of the soil.
It measures the ratio of sodium to calcium and magnesium to determine the soil flocculation.
Soil flocculation enables the improving water absorption and plant growth.
Ion Uptake :- It refers to the absorption of ions from the soil to lumen of the roots is called as Ion uptake.
It can be either Passive or active transport.
