what is soil erosion describe its causes and preventive measures

Dear student,

Soil erosion refers to the removal of the top layer of the soil which is very useful due to various agents such as water, wind etc.

some causes of the soil erosion-
  • Reckless cutting of trees or deforestation.
  • Unscientific farming or irrigating activities.
  • Overgrazing of the pastures by the domestic animals.

Few of the methods to prevent soil erosion are:
  • Various plants, trees, shrubs, and grass should be planted as the roots of these plants hold the soil thus preventing the soil from getting eroded.
  • Windbreakers made from evergreen trees and bushes should be planted across the land which helps to prevent erosion by preventing wind from blowing across it.
  • Cover crops should be grown on the land during the offseason which helps to prevent soil erosion by holding the soil and not letting it get eroded by wind or water easily.
  • Topsoil should be covered by mulch which helps the land to retain moisture and prevent the topsoil from getting eroded.
