What is subordinate clause experts

Clauses are units of grammar that contain at least one predicate (verb) and a subject. A clause, therefore, contains a single verb group.A clause is different than a phrase. A clause is a group of words with a verb and a subject.

Instances of the same can be seen in italics in the following sentences:

• He has a chain which is made of gold.

• The train had left by the time they reached.

• I belong to a family which has fifteen members.

Clauses can be broadly broken up into Independent Clauses and Dependent Clauses.

Independent clauses are the ones that can stand on their own and make their meaning clear.

For example:

The Math exam is tomorrow.

It is very difficult.

Independent clauses are joined with the help of coordinating conjunctions.

For example:

The Math exam is tomorrow and it is very difficult.

Dependent clauses are ones which cannot stand on their own and make their meaning clear.

For example,

The room was open when the police came.

'when the police came' is the dependent clause.
