what is the advantages of fossils

Fossils provide most valuable information about the Earth's history. They tell us about the organisms that lived on Earth from the time of the oldest fossils, about 3.8 billion years ago, to the present.

Fossils are one of the most useful aids to finding oil, because oil tends to accumulate in the pores of particular rock layers. Rocks of different ages contain different fossils. Study of microscopic fossils brought up in chips of rock during drilling of wells has led to many major oil and gas discoveries. 

With the help of fossils we can know the morphological details of the organisms in the past and can relate them to the organisms in the present to understand the process of evolution. We can also trace the time at which the organism existed.

Fossils provide information that helps us anticipate the effects of possible environmental changes.

Fossil fuel mainly comprises Gas, coal and oil. These were formed because of the decomposition of dead animals, plants millions of year ago beneath the earth’s surface.
Advantages of fossil fuel:
1. In every part of our life we somehow are dependent on fossil fuel like gas in kitchen, petrol in cars, coal in thermal power plant etc.
2. The advantage of fossil fuel is in its high calorific value.
3. Easy to transport as gas can be transported through gas pipe lines.
4. When coal is used in power plants, they are very cost effective.
The major disadvantage of fossil fuel is, they are non renewable source of energy and produce lot of pollution in the environment.

(2) Fossils are useful in the exploration for minerals and mineral fuels. Geologists can find out the presence of oil and natural gas deposits at a place by analysing the microfossil samples obtained from these locations.
