What is the atmospheric pressure on earth's surface?

Dear Student

We know the envelope of different gases surrounding the earth is known as the atmosphere. It extends up to a few thousand kilometres. The pressure exerted by the weight of these gases in the atmosphere is known as atmospheric pressure. It is the force exerted on a unit area of surface by the weight of air above that surface.

Scientists use the instrument barometer in meteorology to measure the atmospheric pressure of earth which is 14.7 pounds per square inch currently.
