What is the basic difference between adsorption and absorption?

Absorption is a bulk phenomenon where as adsorption is a surface phenomenon. Like when u dip a chalk in ink , some of the ink is adsorbed on the surface and some is absorbed into the chalk which is clearly visible when u break the chalk n observe.

Adsorption: concentration of liquid or gaseous molecule only at the surface of solid is called adsorption
Absorption : concentration of liquid molecule throught out the bulk of solid is called absorption
