What is the central idea of the poem on killing the tree

Dear student,

By telling us how difficult it is to kill a tree, the poet is actually telling us that man is willing to go to any extent to fulfil his own needs. We are so greedy to gain that we will eliminate anything that stands in our way. The poet is both shocked and saddened to see this, and he wants his readers to feel the same way. 'On Killing a Tree” is his attempt to do just that.Nature has enough to fulfil our needs, but not our greed!  The symbolic meaning of the poem is that even trees have life and they should not be cut down: 'Save Trees'.
