what is the defination of guttation?

Dear Student,

Gutattion is the release of drops of xylem sap on the edges of leaves. Guttation happens due to the root pressure which absorb excess water and send it to the leaves. The leaves cannot withstand so much of water pressure and excrete some of them in form of droplets. It generally occurs at night as water loss through transpiration is very less due to less transpiration rate at night. The guttation fluid contains many organic and inorganic compounds, majorly sugars and potassium.
