what is the difference between a population and a universe

In statistics, population or universe mean the same. Population or universe in statistics implies the whole set of data based on which a survey is conducted. For instance, we are conducting a survey in a classroom to find out the average marks of the students. Let's suppose there are 40 students in this class. Thus in this case, our population or the universe becomes 40 students.
