what is the difference between alluvial soil and silt.

Dear Student,

Alluvium or alluvial soil consists of loose, unconsolidated soil or sediments, eroded and deposited by river water.  Alluvium includes fine particles of silt, clay and larger particles of sand and gravel. This soil is very fertile and suitable for the growth of crops.

Silt is a sediment material with an intermediate size between sand and clay. Carried by water during flood it forms a fertile deposit on valleys floor. Silt is easily compacted.
