What is the difference between block mountains and plateaus?

S.No. Block Mountains Plateaus
1 Block Mountains are created when large areas are broken and displaced vertically. The uplifted blocks are termed as horsts. Plateaus are flat lands that are raised from plains.
2 They have peaks. They do not have peaks. They are even at the top.
3 Climate is usually very cold. Dry and moderate climate exists here.
4 They are not suitable for farming as they are very steep and hence sparsely populated. As they are flat lands, they are highly suitable for agriculture and hence they are densely populated.
5 Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges are examples of block mountains. Deccan plateau is one of the oldest plateaus in the world.
