what is the difference between dissolution and dilution

Dear student,
The process of a solute dissolving in a solvent is called dissolution. The concentration of solute increases in solution by dissolution. Temperature affects the extent of dissolution. Dissolution also depends on the nature of the solute and solvent. Sugar (solute) dissolves in water (solvent).

Dilution is referred to as reducing the concentration of chemicals. E.g. Concentrated acids are diluted by addition of water to them (while diluting we need to add acid to water and not water to acid).

Dissolution : When a solute is dissolved in a solvent, the process is known as dissolution.
Dilution : When water is added to a solution to lower the concentration of a solute it is called dilution.
