What is the difference between Homothallus and Heterothallus; Megasporangium and Microsporangium ; Protenema and Prothallus ?
- Homothallus: Having male and female reproductive structures on the same thallus, as in some fungi and algae.
- Heterothallus: Producing male and female reproductive structures in different structures or plants
- Microsporangia are the structures that give rise to male gametes or microspores or pollen grains. (Microsporanium - singular).
- Megasporangia are the structures that give rise to female gametes or megaspores or ovules. (Megasporanium – singular).
- Protonema is the first stage in the life cycle of a moss, developing directly from the spore. It consists of creeping, green, branched, and often filamentous structures.
- Prothallus is the gametophyte of pteridophytes like fern that bears sex organs and produces gametes.
