  • Saturated hydrocarbons generally give a clean blue flame(non-sooty flame) because complete combustion of these substances takes place.
  • Saturated hydrocarbons burn with a yellow flame(sooty flame) with lots of black smoke due to the incomplete combustion of carbon contents.

in sooty flame you are able to see black unburnt carbon particle and it burns with yellow flame due to incomplete combustion. whereas in non sooty flame no black particles are formed and it burns with clean blue flame. generally saturated carbons give blue flame aand unsaturated carbons give yellow sooty flame
