What is the difference btn elder and older

Dear student

Elder and older both mean the same thing that is "more in age"
but older can be used for both things and people
whereas elder is only used for people that too usually for people closer to you.
For eg-
I have an elder  brother = correct
I have a brother who is older than me = correct
That chair is older than it looks = correct
That chair is elder than it looks = wrong
Hope it helps!
Regards

Both of them mean"more advanced in age". But older is used to describe things as well as people. It can be used as a noun. For example "Respect your elders." Whereas elder is reserved only for people. It cannot be used as a noun.

Hello!
Elder is reserved in people only, but older is used in both things and people. Elder can be used as a noun but older can not.
I hope your doubt is cleared.

Elder and older?but mean "more advanced in age." But while "older" can describe things as well as people, "elder" is reserved for people only. "Elder" can also be used as a noun, as in "respect your?elders," whereas "older" cannot.
