what is the effect of heat on (1) Gypsum (2) Calcium Carbonate? write equations for the reactions.

Dear Student,

On heating gypsum at 373 K, it loses water molecules and becomes calcium sulphate hemihydrate ( CaSO4. 1/2 H2O). This is called Plaster of Paris.

‎CaSO4·2H2O  CaSO4. 1/2 H2O

Limestone is chemically calcium carbonate. When heated, it decomposes to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. Following is the chemical equation for the reaction
