what is the effect of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system of the following organs
1)heart
2)blood vessels
3)bronchi
4)eye
5)gastric secretion
6)urinary bladder

Dear Student

1. HEART

Pacemaker present in the heart produce action potential that results in the contraction of cardiac muscles and hence pumping of blood.

Frequency of action potential produced by the pacemaker is under the control of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.

Sympathetic nervous system increase the frequency of action potential thus increasing the heart rate whereas antagonistically parasympathetic nervous system decrease the frequency of action potential thus lowering the heart beat. Both of them act antagonistically to control the heart beat.

2. BLOOD VESSELS

The parasympathetic nerves dilate blood vessels leading to the Gastro Intestinal tract, increasing blood flow. Sympathetic nervous system constricts the blood vessels.

3. BRONCHI
The bronchioles in the lung are dilated by sympathetic nervous system to allow more air into the lungs, which will increase oxygenation of the blood and keep up with the increased flow of blood through the lungs due to the increased heart rate.
These are constricted by parasympathetic nervous system.

4. EYE
Parasympathetic nervous system causes constriction of pupil while sympathetic system causes dilation of pupil.

5. GASTRIC SECRETIONS
sympathetic stimulation causes inhibition of gastrointestinal secretion and motor activity, and contraction of gastrointestinal sphincters and blood vessels. Conversely, parasympathetic stimuli typically stimulate these digestive activities.

6. URINARY BLADDER
ANS is responsible for contraction ( parasympathetic ) and relaxations (sympathetic ) of urinary bladder and helps to release of urine.
