what is the function of fibrinogen in semen

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

The fibrinogen present in the semen is converted into fibrin by the enzyme fibrinogenase. The fibrin results in the coagulation of semen to form sperm plug in the vagina after ejaculation. This is important as it keeps sperms in the female tract for long time and also prevents the sperms from other male to fertilise the female in case of multiple partners. This process is more handy in animals as many males compete over access to single female.
