If the wires were attached to the end of the rotating member of the generator, they would twist along with the motion of the loop, won't they?

This would cause the wires to break over time.

Slip rings are used as they remove the need for the wires to be attached to the loop and the carbon brushes maintain a constant electric circuit while rotating.
