what is the function of stomach

Your friends are right. I would like to brief it.

Functions of stomach are:

  • It stores food.
  • It breaks down of the ingested food
  • It partially digests the food.
  • It releases acids and enzymes for the chemical breakdown of food.
  • It releases food into the small intestine in a controlled and regulated manner.

stomach has

1.peptic cell or chief cell responsible for production of inactive pepsinogen which is converted to active pepsin when exposed to acidic pH provided by HCl . pepsin acts on protein part of chyme and convert it into proteoses and peptides .

2.oxyntic cell which release HCl required for activation of pepsin . it also protects stomach from germs .

3.goblet cells which produce mucus . mucus will protect the stomach from excess acid secretion .

4. in case of infants gastric juice in stomach also has rennin which will help in digestion of milk proteins .

hope my answer helps u friend...............

The stomach's main function is digestion. It does this by:Storing the food we eat.Breaking down the food into a liquidly mixture called chyme.Mixing enzymes which is are chemicals that break down food.Slowly empties that liquidly mixture into the small intestine. The stomach uses pepsin (enzyme) andpeptidase (another enzyme) to break down proteins in your food. The acid released by the stomach doesn't break down food it only provides a good environment for the enzymes to work in. By this point the food is mushy and the stomach then passes this mixture on to the small intestine which willfurther break down the food. The stomach mixed the food with stomach acid to break it down and digest it.
