What is the Great Himalaya? Write two characteristics of it.

The following points may help you:

a. The Great Himalayas are basically the young fold mountains that have come into existence because of convection currents and compressional forces. The mountains are the highest mountain ranges of the World.
b. These mountain ranges are parallel and consist of three parallel ranges namely Himadri,Himachal or lesser Himalayas and the Shiwaliks. The Himalayas  are separated by intervening valleys and plains.
c. Most of the glaciers feeding the Indian rivers are located in the Himalayas. Himalayas are the source of many perennial rivers and their tributaries like Ganges, Indus.
d.  Himalayas act as natural barriers to the extremely cold winds from Central Asia and has contributed in uniformity of temperatures in India.
e. Some of the major mountain peaks located in Himalayas are Everest, Kanchenjunga, Kailash etc.
