What is the idea of br ambedkar as social reformer
BR Ambedkar is one of the foremost individuals in shaping the destiny of modern India. He was born in 1891 as an untouchable in a Marathi family. As an untouchable, he had to face much discrimination in his childhood. However, through his brilliance and hard work, and through a scholarship provided by the Maharaja of Baroda, he was able to attain academic distinction. As a social reformer, he inspired Dalit Buddhist Movement and raised his voice against social discrimination towards the untouchables.
Dr. Ambedkar’s resolve to emancipate his fellow ‘untouchables’ and make them free from the chains of social slavery. He played a major role in raising consciousness among the depressed classes for their rights, and to the injustices being imposed on them by the so called ‘upper castes’ of society. To bring unity among the depressed classes, Ambedkar founded and established political parties and organisations for their upliftmen. He even published newspapers to disseminate information and spread awareness amongst them. He started the Marathi fortnightly, ‘Mooknayak’ (leader of the voiceless), in 1920, and set up the organisation, ‘Bahishkrit Hitkarni Sabha’ in 1924.
