What is the location and role of splliting of water during photosynthesis

Dear student,
The absorbed energy by the chlorophyll is used in splitting of the water molecules into it's components(Hydrogen ions and oxygen) and releasing electrons. This is known as photolysis, which means splitting by light.
Role:-
These hydrogen ions produced are used to generate energy in the form of ATP. The oxygen ions that are produced here are released in the atmosphere as a by product of photosynthesis.

Location:-
Photolysis occurs by exciting an electron from Photosystem II (PS II) in the thylakoid membranes of the grana in the chloroplasts.
