What is the main idea expressed in the poem 'My Mother AtSixty-Six'? How do the images of thereal world, which occur in the poem connect to this idea?

The main idea expressed in this poem is that everything that has blossomed will wither one day. Life will age and consequently come to an end. The poet notices how her mother's radiance had worn out with age.

The images of the real world like that of the 'children spilling out of their homes' and the 'sprinting trees' contrasts life with death. Moreover, the image of the 'late winter's moon' illustrates the similarity between the poet's aging mother and the moon.
