The narrator’s grandmother was a strong willed woman. She not only took care of herself, but also her grandson. She used to get up early in the morning and then prepare her grandson for the school. Firstly, he might have meant that his grandmother used to clean his wooden slate and keep the yellow chalk with it. She used to make everything ready before he left for school.
