What is the meaning of reduction here?

Dear Student,

​​​​​​Here, Reduction means addition of hydrogen with Carbon dioxide. Refer the following reaction
 
6CO2 + 12H2O ---> C6H12O6 + 3O2
 
This occurs during dark reaction phase of photosynthesis. Here, Hydrogen is added to carbon dioxide due to which it is said to be reduced.
