What is the meaning of the phrase "There is no mystery so great as Misery" ?

Dear student

It is a phrase used by Oscar Wilde in "The Happy Prince". It means that misery is very complicated and no one is able to understand the cause of suffering hence he says that there is no greater mystery than that of misery.

This is a quote by Oscar Wilde in the story "The Happy Prince"
Dear little Swallow," said the Prince, "you tell me of marvellous things, but more marvellous than anything is the suffering of men and of women. There is no Mystery so great as Misery. Fly over my city, little Swallow, and tell me what you see there."
God is the keeper of all secret things. As we have observed Mystery there is being capitalized the same with Misery. Since mystery is secret thing; therefore Mystery there is God. We can not explain mysteries because God only knows about it. However, we can explain misery why it happen...but then, the Misery there is in capital letter maybe that is the opposition of Mystery (God) -Misery is satan.
