What is the mesosome? State its function. Also, answer the question in a bit of detail.

Dear student,
Mesosomes are extension of plasma membrane towards the inside of the cell. Found in Bacterial cell, also considered as chondrioids. They have further extension like vesicle, tubules, and lamellae.
The folded structure of a mesosome provides an increase in surface area of plasma membrane that helps in more efficient respiration. It is considered as a cellular organelle, it has enzymes that helps in cellular respiration.
Mesosomes also helps in the cell wall formation. Mature mesosomes formes a link between the cytoplasmic membrane and the nucleus of the cell.  They also play a role in DNA replication, even cell compartmentalisation and septum formation during divison of cell.
Mesosomes are of two types: Septal (extension of plasma membrane towards the inside and in the cytoplasm) and Lateral ( located at the periphery and need not be associated with nucleus.)

Mesosome is a organelle of bacteria that appears as an invagination ( inside out or folded back on itself )  of the plasma membrane . It functions either in DNA replication and cell divison or excretion of exoenzymes .

Some of the functions of Mesosomes are

1 )Mesosomes are involved in septum formation during cell division.

2)They carry a site for the attachment of signal peptides

3)They have a an attachment for DNA for replication and contains ?enzymes used during replication. ?

4)They control the activity of Autolytic

An organelle of bacteria that appears as an invagination of the plasma membrane and functions either in DNA replication and cell division or excretion of exo enzymes are called mesosomes .
