What is the message of the poem "fire and ice"? What does the poet hold with those who favour fire?

Dear Student,
The poet's assumption about the world's end is expressed in this poem. He is unsure of how the world will come to an end; by ice or by fire. Fire signifies the desires and yearnings of the physical bodies while ice is the hatred among people. However, it will definitely be destructed by any of these two, he assumes.

Ice is compared with the hatred and rigidity of people. The poet says that people with hatred will ultimately be the reason of destruction of the world as their ego will lead them to do so.

Hope this helps.

Regards
