what is the nature of metal oxide and non metallic oxide? give reason

metal oxide is basic in nature because they can easily furnish hydroxyl
ion in solution

co2 is non metallic opxide when it reacts wid base it gives salt and water sinceit is similar to the reaction acid wid base

so we may con clude that non metallic oxides are acidic in nature

Metal oxides are always basic in nature. For example, Magnesium Oxide is a metallic oxide. It will be basic because on adding water to it it will become Mg(OH)2 (Magnesium Hydroxide) which is a base!!!!!

Non Metallic oxides are always acidic in nature. For example Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a non metallic oxide. On adding water to this, Carbonic acid  will be formed.

Hope u understand.

carbon dioxide is a non-metallic oxide When Co2 reacts with base it gives salt and water so it is basic in nature. Metal oxide is basic in nature.
  • 1
Non metal oxides are acidic when we react Co2 with a base as Co2 is non metal it gives salt and water so it is base. Metal is basic in nature
  • -1
Metallic oxides are basic in nature because when they react with acids they form salt and water. Non metallic oxides are acidic in nature because when they react with bases they form salt and water

Metal oxide form OH-O after hydrolysis so they are basic in nature

What happens when mettalic oxides react with acid
  • -2
Metal oxides are basic in nature beacase they react with water to form bases. Moreover, the oxides turn moist red litmus paper blue and blue reamins blue.
Na2O + H2O = NaOH + H2
Non-metallic oxides are acidic in nature because they turn moist blue litmus paper red and red remains red.
(Non-metals do not react with water).

Metal oxide is basic in nature. We know that Base + acid---->salt + water Similarly metal oxide reacts with acid to give salt and water. So metal oxide is basic. Non metallic oxide is acidic as it reacts with base to give salt and water. So it is considered to be acidic oxide.

Nature of non metallic oxide is universally acidic in nature , unlike of metallic oxides which are found to be basic in nature

Metallic oxides are basic or amphoteric in nature. Eg.basic oxide -NaO Amphoteric oxide- Al2O3 Non metallic oxides are acidic or neutral in nature Eg. Acidic oxid - CO2 Neutral oxide - NO

Metal oxides are basic in nature when also diluted with water
Nonmetallic oxides are acidic when water is added

For example .... Zn+H2O gives ZnOH which is a base similarly it is with non metallic oxides

Metallic oxides?are basic in?naturebecause they react with dilute acids to form salt and water. They also react with water to form?metal?hydroxides which are alkaline in?nature?because these?metal?hydroxides release OH- ions in solution.

Nature of metal oxide are basic whereas nature of non metallic oxide are acidic because of their position in periodic table.

Metal oxide are basic in nature and non metal oxide are acidic in nature
Metal oxide are basic in nature because they give ohnegative ions
Non metal oxide are acidic in nature because they give h positive ion

metallic oxides are called basic oxides .
THEY are called so because the products formed in the reaction between   acids and bases  is  the same as the same as reaction between metal oxides and acids.
non metallic oxides are called acidic oxides .
reason is the same but in this case we take reaction between non metallic oxides and  bases .

Non metal oxides are either
natural or acidic in nature
  • -1
Metal oxides are basic in nature whereas non-metal oxides are acidic in nature. Non-metal oxides are called acidic oxides because when a non-metal reacts with oxygen, it gives an oxide which on dissolution with water gives an acid.

Metal oxides are basic in nature and non metal oxides are acidic in nature as metal oxides react with acids to give salt and water and non metal oxides react with bases to give salt and water

The oxide of metal are basic in nature or in other word they react with acidto farm salt and water in case of non metal, they areacidic in nature to form acid when they dissolve in water

Non-Metal oxide are acidic in nature because when they react with water it leads to the formation of acidic solution and metals are basic in nature because metal oxide reacts with acid to give salt and water.
