what is the nature of tissues in heartwood and sapwood

Heart wood is made up of secondary xylem tissue. It becomes dark brown due to the deposition of organic compounds like tannins, resins, aromatic substances, gums, oils and forms central most layer of stem. It is hard and provides mechanical support to the plant.

Sap wood is also made up of secondary xylem tissue but contains peripheral part of secondary xylem. It is lighter in colour and helps plant in conduction of water and minerals from root to leaf.

The hardwood consists of Secondary Xylem which becomes darker due to deposition of tannins, resins,oils,gums , essential oils etc this region comprises of dead elements with highly lignified walls. The sapwood is also made of secondary Xylem but it conducts water and minerals unlike the hard wood.HOPE IT HELPS YOU!!
