What is the oxidation state of Cr in CrO6

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution for your asked question-

Assumption- Generally, the compound CrO5 exists in nature as Cr cannot extend its oxidation beyond +6. Hence, we are assuming the compound to be CrO5.

CrO5 is a compound that has the structure which has peroxide linkage (O22-) as shown:

Thus the oxidation number of Chromium can be calculated as:

Let the oxidation number of Cr be x,

Then, x - 2 - 2(2) = 0

x - 2 - 4 = 0

x - 6 = 0

Thus, x = +6
