What is the positive shift that has come in human perception and what is the role of green movement in bringing such a change?

The positive shift that has occurred in human perceptions is from a mechanistic view to a holistic and ecological view of the world. This shift in perspective was introduced by Copernicus who taught mankind in the sixteenth century that the earth and the other planets revolved around the sun and not the other way. This growing worldwide consciousness of the earth as a living organism with its own metabolic needs and vital processes has transformed human perceptions of the planet.

The Green Movement captured the imagination of the entire human race so completely and rapidly that the movement has not looked back since then. This shift in perspective is a result of this Green Movement, looking at the earth as a living organism and not from a utilitarian perspective: in terms of what we can do for the earth and not the other way round. It raised awareness about our ethical obligations to be responsible and dutiful stewards engaged in preserving the legacy for future generations. Thus came about the concept of sustainable development or sparingly using the earth's natural resources with a view to leaving behind enough for future generations and possibly in a better state than we found it.
