What is the potometer ??? What are the different types of potometres ? Please explain !!!
Dear student
A potometer is a device used for measuring the rate of water uptake of a leafy plant shoot. The main reason for water uptake by a cut shoot is transpiration and is effected by the transpiration stream.
Types of Potometers:
Darwin's Y-shaped potometer is the simplest type of potometer used to measure the rate of transpiration. It consists of a glass tube with a side tube.

Ganong's Potometer is an apparatus for the demonstration of transpiration and water rates by a cut plant shoot under various external conditions. It works as simple potometer, and works on the principle of capillarity.
Farmer's Potometer is used for measuring the rate of uptake of water by a cut plant shoot.
Bose's Potometer consists of U-tube containing mercury, rise of fall in mercury is recorded to note the rate of transpiration.
