What is the role of the seminal vesicles and the prostate gland?

Dear student,

The prostate gland and the seminal vesicles are crucial parts of the male reproductive system. The sperm requires nutrients as well as a moving medium. The fluid secreted by seminal vesicles and the prostate gland provides this. As a result, these secretions make up a portion of the sperm.

Seminal vesicles produce an alkaline, slimy secretion that contains fructose, ascorbic acid, prostaglandin, and enzymes that offer nutrition and energy. It makes the sperms active.

The prostate glands are bilobed walnut-sized glands that surround the urethra and are located near the bladder. It also secretes phosphate, lysozymes, spermin, citrate, fibrinolysin, and other alkaline fluids. The prostate gland secretion activates sperm and inhibits the semen from coagulating.
