What is the saka calendar

Dear Student,

The Shaka Calendar is a historical calendar, which is sometimes known as Shalivahana Shaka Calendar. It is India's National Calendar.  This calendar follows the Shaka era which corresponds to Julian year 78. This era commemorates the departure of the Shaka victory and the ascension of Kaniska's Kusana Suzerainty. At present, it is used, alongside the Gregorian calendar, by The Gazette of India, in news broadcasts by All India Radio and in calendars and communications issued by the Government of India.
