What is the significance of the hyaline cartilage?

Dear student.

Hyaline Cartilage is the type of cartilage of which matrix consist of large protein fibers which are predominantly collagen. The optical density of these fibers is similar to ground substance due to which cartilage appear uniform , semi transparent tissue with evenly dispersed chondrocytes( cartilage cells that produce matrix) in lacunae (cavities in matrix). Perichondrium ( fibrous membrane) is found around hyaline cartilage. They are pearly blue in appearance and simple in structure with no nerves or blood vessels.

Hyaline cartilage provides flexibility, acts as a lubricant and prevents friction between two bones.

Regards.
