Litmus solution is obtained from lichens in which a natural dye extract from lichen is taken and dissolved in distilled water to obtain the litmus solution.

It is used as an acid-base indicator as if ;

If color of litmus solution is red -> it is acidic.

If color is blue -> It is basic and

If color does not changes -> the solution is neutral.
