What is the structure and function of sieve tubes
what is the structure and function of companion cells

Dear student.

Sieve tubes are series of end to end connected sieve cells or sieve elements with perforated walls. They help in the translocation of food.

Companion cells are the specialized parenchyma cells associated with the sieve tube elements of phloem. They help in the development and function of a sieve-tube element. Companion cells probably provide ATP, proteins, and other substances to the sieve-tube elements, whose cytoplasm lacks many structures necessary for cell maintenance. Companion cells move sugars and amino acids into and out of the sieve elements.

Regards.
