In this poem, the poet has personified a fan and given it human –like qualities.
There was once a fan which made so much noise as it moved that it appeared to be talking. Its talk or ‘chatter’ was fed by electricity .But; the poet could not understand what the fan said. He hoped that the fan had not said anything important.
One day, the fan’s moving motor parts were oiled by somebody and it stopped making any noise. The poet was disappointed as it spoiled the enigmatic quality of that fan. It started running smoothly and became as quiet as still water.
