The theme of the story is basically the arrogance and pride of elite class as they think that they are above all, their money and orders can buy anything or anyone, even fate but the story shows that every attempt to change one's fate is bound to be futile. One should believe only in his own Karma. The king made every possible effort to negate the prophesy by the astrologer, but ultimately died because of a tiger. Fate has it's own wicked ways of becoming reality.
