so it cannot lose or gain but only share electrons.so it has covalency of 4 it has neither positive nor negative valency. it is a non-metal...you can remember by this-if outermost shell has 1,2,3 electrons then it is a metal and if 4,5,6,7,8 then its nonmetal.
