What is total reflection

When a light ray travels from a denser optical medium to a rarer optical medium and strikes at the interface, it might happen that the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle of the given pair of media and hence the the incident ray reflects back in the denser medium itself. Such phenomenon is called total internal reflection. The conditions necessary for total internal reflection are
(i) angle of incidence should be greater than critical angle for the given pair of media
(ii) the incident ray should travel from denser medium to rarer medium.
Hope it helps!

Total reflection is a state or a condition in which the substance reflects almost 100 percent of the light that is given to it . This property is generally used in fibre optics in transmitting signals to various parts of the world without losing the signals.
