what is unemployment

Unemployment refers to the situation in which an individual who is able and willing to work at an existing wage rate does not get work for some reasons. This can be broadly classified into two types -

1) Rural unemployment - Its the type of unemployment taking place in the rural areas. We can divid this type of unemployment into:-

a) Seasonal Unemployment - It refers to the situation when in a year a person only gets employed for only a few months. A farmer rendering / dealing with a specific crop instead of a set of crops. Eg - If he deals only with Kharif crops than in the season of growing od Rabi crops his produce would be absent and vice - versa.

b) Disguised Unemployment - This type of unemployment is a situation in which the number of persons engaged in a work is more than what is actually required to complete the work. This problem has arised due to two major reasons stated as below:-

i) Joint family system

ii) Lack of alternative opportunities

From the above mentioned reasos the second one more common and disasterous.
